About Chitral & Kalash

Chitral is remote, culturally distinct and far less crowded than the Gilgit-Baltistan valleys — and the Kalash valleys are unlike anywhere else in Pakistan.

Best time to go

May to September. Time it with Chilam Joshi in mid-May or Uchal in August to see a Kalash festival.

Busiest (and priciest): May, June, July, August.

Tips that save money

  • Be respectful when photographing Kalash people, especially women — ask first.
  • Foreign nationals need to register with the police in Chitral; Pakistanis do not.
