About Fairy Meadows

Fairy Meadows sits under the north face of Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain on earth. Getting there is half the adventure: a cliff-edge jeep track, then a three-hour walk.

Getting there from Peshawar

For Swat and Chitral you can skip Islamabad entirely via the Swat Motorway; for everything else, join the Hazara Motorway at Burhan.

Drive to Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway (about 11–12 hours from Islamabad via Babusar), take the union jeep to Tato (about 1.5 hours), then hike 3 hours to the meadows. Ponies are available.

Best time to go

June to September. May and October are possible but cold, with some huts shut.

Busiest (and priciest): June, July, August. Effectively closed: November, December, January, February, March, April.

Tips that save money

  • Only union jeeps are allowed on the Tato track; the fare is per jeep, so fill all the seats.
  • Accommodation is huts and camps; book ahead in July and August.
  • There is no mobile signal at the meadows on most networks.
